Getting to know
Jana Johnson, Ph.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 18487) with twenty-five years of clinical experience. I had the opportunity to serve as a peer counselor in high school and knew with certainty that I wanted to be a psychologist. I received my Bachelors of Arts from the University of California, San Diego and graduated with departmental honors in Psychology and a double minor in Biology and Art History. At UCSD I worked as a research assistant in the Brain and Perception Research Lab and the Autism Research Lab, gaining valuable training and understanding of the importance of research in the field of psychology. I received my Masters (1999) and Doctorate (2001) from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, Los Angeles. In my clinical training, I had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including a community mental health clinic, as an in-home behavioral modification therapist for children diagnosed with autism, a child and family therapist at a foster family agency and as a HIV counselor.
In 2000, I began my final pre-doctoral internship at the Riverside County Department of Mental Health (RCDMH) in Indio. I met my colleague and friend, Dr. Kami Bryant, who played an instrumental role in my growth as a psychologist working with chronic and serious mental illness. Following receiving my Ph.D., I continued working at RCDMH, providing psychological evaluations and therapy on the Child and Adolescent Unit and the Assessment and Crisis Evaluation Services Unit. I began seeing private practice patients in 2000 and transitioned solely in 2004. Dr. Bryant and I have been working together as an effective team for many, many years.
I have an integrated style of working with clients using cognitive behavioral strategies. My goal is to provide a supportive, safe, and calm environment to allow the therapeutic work to bloom. I strive to provide empathetic understanding and genuineness for each person I am fortunate enough to work with.
Getting to know
Kami Bryant, Ph.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in California since 1998 and licensed since 2001. I completed my undergraduate work at California State University, Fullerton. I attended a five year graduate program at the California School of Professional Psychology (now named Alliant University) and obtained my Ph.D. in 1998.
I worked for the Riverside County Department of Mental Health for approximately 10 years where I gained a wealth of experience working with people with mood disorders, psychotic disorders, chemical dependency, dissociative disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, trauma, and grief. I worked outpatient and inpatient crisis intervention, stabilization group therapy, individual and family therapy. I transitioned to private practice in 2007 and have built a thriving practice with my colleague and friend Dr. Jana Johnson. I feel very lucky to have had the breadth of experience working for the county and continue to work with people with varying disorders, issues, and areas of difficulties.
